Ksylitol is about 40 percent less caloric and has about 75 percent fewer carbohydrates than traditional sugar. It is slowly absorbed and which causes very small changes in the secretion of insulin. About 30 percent consumed xylitol is absorbed by the liver and the remainder in the gastrointestinal tract, where it is degraded by gut bacteria in the short chain fatty acids.

Ksylitol is widely used. It is an ideal substitute for regular sugar in sweets, baked goods. Using Ksylitol ou can bake cookies, sweetened tea, make jam. Because of the wide range of temperatures in which you can use Ksylitol it can be cooking, baking and freezing.

Ksylitol has also anti-caries effect. It is therefore used in oral care products such as toothpastes, mouthwashes or floss.

Ksylitol can also be used in the form of a spray or drops (which can be done independently of 1 part of sugar dissolved in 20 parts saline). Such solutions can be applied to the ear (from otitis media) - very good cure this disease in young children, also preferably ksylitol acts as nasal drops. It also reduces allergy symptoms.

NOTE!
You should not consume xylitol in large quantities - safe dosage is 3 teaspoons per day (approx. 15g - Finnish scientists admit to consume up to 40 grams per day).

Ksylitol should be introduced gradually, because the sudden adoption of the permissible amounts may cause diarrhea - this is necessary because of the need to adapt the digestive system to produce the right amount digesting enzyme ksylitol.
